What are thumbnails?

Should someone explain me what is Gallery Thumbnails,picture Thumbnail and etc?.That ate Lots of internal storage almost half of use able internal storage for user?..

Thumbnails are the previews for your media files (images and videos) . If you have lots of images,there will be a large amount of data for thumbnails.
