Sony are suppose to be one of the most advanced, most powerful companies in the World, to have a simple issue with a product brought saying what it does on the tin is another story, so here goes ........

My phone which is suppose to be waterproof is now not waterproof, it will now not work after being in the water, it worked for 3 attempts then stopped. I made sure all flaps were shut tight and I did this by holding my fingers on the them. The flaps inside are still white which indicates they have not been exposed to water, I am currently on on holiday at Disneyworld and now have lost all my pictures and videos,

I am very disappointed in this product, and now have lost all my important videos and pictures. You are now going to tell me that it's the heat from the sun that's probably melted the glue that holds the phone together?. In this case shouldn't this be stated on the phone product ? Before my phone entering the water it worked without no problems at all, well ...... I must be the unlucky person out of millions of the phones sold that this has happened to ??? Especially being on a normal holiday to Disneyworld which I come to every year because I can afford to...... NOT !!!! I live in England and to travel to Disneyworld is a one life experience and to have had all my videos and pictures that are very important to myself and to lose them from a product that doesn't work, which simply states it does, infact says to me you are selling a false product, and has you could agree? I am not the only person having this problem !!?? So what is my solution, I know ....to send my phone back .... this really helps and no doubt you will say its been exposed to water by myself which I made extra precautions for this not to happen, so please tell me what I do not already know ???

Many Thanks ....Micky Mouse ....oh sorry, Daren I forgot for one minute beens I'm in fairyland like these so called next generation products, speak to you soon ;0)

Maybe a stupid question...

But how waterproof is the 3.5mm headset jack bus on top of the Xperia Z1?

I can see the contacts if i look in the jack bus. What if a waterdrop will fall in the jackbus, will it give a shortcut?

Do i need a rubber 3.5mm jack dummy to cover it?

By the way, i order the  magnetic usb charging cable for Xperia Z1, and use andftp to transfer files over wifi/ftp..

So that i don't need to open the bus covers of the Z1.

@Jeroensky - The headphone jack has the same IP rating as the rest of the device but may not perform well if it is wet and you connect headphones so I would advise ensuring the jack is dry before connecting a headset.

I already ordered a '3.5mm jack dust cover'. (the one for iphone is nice flat) Just to prevent that a raindrop for example fall in, and besides i use bluetooth stereo headset for audio/mic/control.

You have lots of those things in funny ways.

It makes me laugh when people say, I'm buying this and I'm buying that just to make sure no water gets in. The phone states its waterproof... You should have no reason to buy extra bits and bobs unless the phone doesn't do what it says. The end of the day all the phones are simply not waterproof and they shouldn't say it is if they are not sure that all really work, again false advertising!! I buy a phone for what it says it does, not to buy extra bits to be on the safe side !!

I only want to keep it clean (jack plug cover cap), and don't want to have the risk on breaking the bus covers (when you use a case around your phone it's difficult to open them) so i bought a magnetic charging cable.

It's up to a user him/her selve to do so, i like the idea that i don't need to do any mechanical thing on my phone to use it the next years. I like to have some durability.

And besides, if you can effort such a expensive smartphone, then the few extra money is no problem at all.
