Video playback battery drain Xperia Tablet Z

Hello,

I have noticed that my Xperia Tablet Z started to drain battery when watching video's. Whether they're 1080p or 360p, my battery drains 1% every 2 minutes. This means, starting at 100%, that after an episode of Family Guy, my battery has 90% left. Then I would get a total of approximately 200 minutes of video playback, which is less than 3,5 hours. I haven't had this problem before and I started noticing it yesterday. I have no problems with browsing whatsoever regarding battery drainage and I have flight mode on, and I close all apps when watching videos. I use MX Player Pro.

I bought this tablet to watch movies during my holiday flights of about 10-14 hours. I thought that I could watch movies the whole flight when having an exernal battery or charger. Of course I won't watch movies my whole flight but I would be very disappointed if it can't even get to 5/6 hours. When I bought the tablet I was told (and internet tells me too) that my tablets has up to 9.5 hours of video playback. 3 Hours is 1/3 of that!

Is there anything I can do?

EDIT: Forgot to note that when I stream football matches directly from the internet to my tablet, the battery drainage is as much or even a little bit less than the video playback, which I think is very strange. I have my videos stored on an external SD card.

If you play a locally stored video using the built in video player do you experience comparable battery drain?
