I just purchased a new Xperia X Compact on Wednesday -12/30/16. I patched with all the available patches, and I'm up to 6.0.1. My service is with T-Mobile in the United States. Since I received the phone, I have had issues with watching videos via Netflix, YouTube and Facebook. The sound and video are out of sync. This happens when I'm on a Wi-Fi or Cellular cellular connection. But it happens more on the Cellular connection. Sometimes the Wi-Fi connection is good and the videos play fine.
I have deleted and re-installed both Facebook, Netflix, and YouTube on my device and I still have the same problems.
Any idea ideas on how to fix this issue?
I am an iPhone owner too, and I don't have this particular problem with the iPhone -either on Wi-Fi or Cellular. I'd like to give the iPhone to my wife and use the Xperia instead, but if I can't get the Xperia to work 100% with video I will need to return it.
Thank you,
Mike
Hi @wdetmar,
Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear about this issue.
Try going to Settings > About Phone, and tap on "Build" until it says "Developer options enabled".
Then, go to Settings > Developer options and check "Forced GPU rendering".
Once you have done this, restart the phone and try it again. Let me know if it's still out of sync.
Good morning,
I have changed the settings as requested on my device. I'll test multiple video sources throughout the day today on both Wi-Fi and cellular and provide feedback this evening.
Thank you,
Mike
I just completed running my first set of tests.
My device is on the T-Mobile network, full bars. I don't have access to Wi-Fi at this time. I'll test that later this afternoon.
Netflix - Breaking Bad S2:E3 - out of sync
YouTube - Neil deGrasse Tyson interview - out of sync
Facebook - Daily Show 43 sec segment - out of sync
/Settings /Developer Options /Hardware accelerated rendering /Force GPU rendering (Force use of GPU for 2d drawing) is ON. The device was rebooted after this setting was turned on. It has been on since about 6am ET. It's now just after noon.
Thank you,
Mike
I just completed my second round of tests. This time I was using my home Wi-Fi.
YouTube - mkbhd video - out of sync
Facebook - Dr. Who clip - out of sync
Netflix - Portlandia - out of sync
I then tried to watch the videos without my Bose QC 35 Bluetooth headphones. And the audio and video began to sync up.
Watching without the headphones for audio and it seems better. I need to test more tonight and tomorrow.
Could the headphones be part of the issue?
That's what seems to be the issue
After trying the tests, the problem seems to exist with the Bose QC 35 Bluetooth headphones. Unfortunately the headphones are only about $50 less than the cost of the phone itself. And I only have the problem using them with the X Compact and not my iPhone. So, reluctantly I have returned the X Compact. I'm going to shop for other phones. If a definitive answer could be presented as to how solve the Bluetooth headphone issue I'd be more than happy to consider a Sony smartphone in the future. I really liked it.
