USB Tethering causes Settings Force Close

USB tethering had been working just fine before. I try it today and it force closes as soon as i enable it, every single time. This is really really frustrating. I already rebooted the phone, still no help. I need this to work. Any help?

Try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

Factory reset is not an option. There are things on the phone that can't be backed up unless I root and get titanium backup. I cannot afford to lose those things.

Also, it was safe to assume a factory reset would fix this. I came here looking for a better solution than that. Thanks though.

I'm not sure what answer you were after - As a user support forum and without knowing what apps are on and what they do etc then that is about the best I can do - I suppose you could try a settings reset but as you have said this may not be an option as this will not erase data but reset your personalized settings

Maybe something like, you know, force stop this or that app and clear cache or clear data on this or that app. I did what I could regarding that to no avail, so was looking for more info on that sort of thing. Clearing settings data and stuff won't affect the other data I don't want to lose. That's something only a factory reset would do.

If you want to try a settings reset then open Settings then Apps and swipe to All then locate and open Setings - Tap on Clear cache and data and then reboot and test

Didnt work.

😕

How could a built-in app like this break so bad? Would a logcat help? (or is that more for the XDA forum types...)
