Hi,
I and my son have an Xperia Tipo each. My phone seems to behave normally when I connect a charger or USB to the phone, however my sons always shuts down. When connecting it to the PC it cannot find the phone as it shuts down. So we cannot update the phone even though mine can.
Any ideas other than a total reset?
As soon as I put in the usb cable it goes to the shutdawn process, even if I select an app in LiveWire.
Many Thanks
Unfortunately I don't think there's any other option then resetting the phone if you can't connect it to the computer. Try resetting and then repair the phone software via PC Companion.
There is a way to update the phone, but it requires a 3rd party program, and a file with an FTF extension.
If your issue hasn't been solved yet, could you tell which firmware you are on right now (on your son's phone).
I will try to hook you up with the files you need, and a guide in now to 'flash' the newer firmware, as it's called.
I'll inbox you with a PM, in case you want to discuss things in private, although I prefer discussing it here because it might help other users with their problems
Thank you dragoboss but there are a cople of reasons I would rather not.
1 it would invalidate the warranty,
2 I do not kow you from anyone and you could inadvertantly be offerring me software that could spy on my phone
3 even a factory reset did not clear the issue so I feel it may well be a hardware fault.
I have now emailed Sony as a full reset had no effect. Samuel I think you were on the right lines if it were a software issue but it seems it may take Sony to sort.
Thanks again

Just a smart note on this:
FTF's flashing does not void your warranty, as for the program, the program that I meant is for the pc, if you would run it and add the so called FTF file, it would simply install an archived version of official Sony firmware to your phone, and it doesn't change anything to your phone itself.
The program itself is used all over the world for many different Sony phones.
I agree that if you did a full reset, and it still hasn't been resolved, you better sort it out with Sony.
My guess is that there's an internal phone driver which has been corrupted somehow.
Good luck, hope you repair your phone.
