usb device not recognised

I'm unable to connect my xperia ray to my pc or any other computer. The phone is charging but I get the error message usb driver not installed. I want to update to ics.

Have you tried connecting to it via PC companion or the Update Service application installed on your PC?

Yes I've tried, I therefore can't update my phone now.

What I meant, the pnone doesnt turn green . It's just charging.
