I upgraded to the sony xperia z1 yesterday and now i cant receive text messages from people who have iphones and use imessage, is there a solution to this ?
Short anser no imessage is propretry to apple devices they can however still send you test messages as normal if youve kept your same number they will need to make sure their phones are accidentally sending you imessages instead of texts same issue happened when i upgraded.
so they basically have to turn imessage off for me to receive texts from them ?
not sure they will be happy doing that
Tuning off iMessage from Apple.
yes ive turned off imessage on my iphone, still cant receive texts on my xperia z1 from my friends who have iphone using imessage 😕 what am i supposed to do when 90% of my contacts use imessage
I had this problem too when I weng from iphone to the Z1. Not only did I have to turn off imessaging on my iphone, I also had to get my friends to turn off their imessaging, send me a text to the Z1, then they were able to turn their imessaging on again. After that I had no problems.
Make sure you turn off iMessage on all your other Apple devices, if applicable. When I switched over to Z1 from iPhone 4S, I also had to disable iMessage on my MacBook and iPad too.
Non-iPhone devices can’t receive iMessages, so if you no longer use an iPhone, you need to deactivate iMessage.
This lets your friends’ iPhones know to send you messages via text messaging or multimedia messaging
(MMS) services instead.
If you have access to your iPhone
To disable iMessage on an iPhone
Note! If you’ve got other Apple devices (an iPad, iPod touch or Mac for example) registered
to the same Apple ID as your phone, you’ll need to deactivate iMessage on all of them.
Otherwise your messages will continue to go to your Apple ID instead of your new phone.
Follow the steps below if you’re not sure how to do this.
If you don’t have access to your iPhone
To disable iMessage using apple.com
Note! If you’ve got any other iMessage-capable devices registered to the same Apple ID that
you no longer have access to, unregister these now.
Note! By unregistering your iPhone from your Apple ID through the Apple site, it won’t have
access to the App Store or content you’ve purchased unless your re-register it.

Ryan,
New to the Forum's but hope I can help if you haven't resolved your issue yet.
Have you contacted your service provider (E.G O2, Vodafone, Virgin, etc). I had the same problem when I first got my phone. Turns out the Sim Card hadn't recognised I'd gone from an iPhone to the Xperia. Once it was registered that I'd moved my friends messages stopped going through as iMessages to my iPhone and started coming through as normal text messages again to my Z1.
Also as suggested above disabling iMessage and such alike does help, but it may be the case that your Carrier hasn't recognised your swap. If you call them they should take you through a short little guide to manually change it from your own phone (Failing that I'm sure there's a way they can do it!).
Hope this helps!
