update while using my Xperia Z2 as a modem

I have already ticked "Allow updates when using my phone as a modem" on PC Companion but  still it doesn't work. I am trying to update my Sony Xperia Z2 and USB tethering is my only possible way to do it. Can i use it (the same phone) to update while it is being used as a modem?

You can't update your phone via Pc Companion via a wirelesss connection and this is because in order to update a phone via PCC it requires your phone to enter Flashmode and this leaves the only way to push the update to your phone is via your Pc - I hope this is what you are enquiring about

It would be like trying to update the BIOS on a Pc without having to reboot your Pc into the BIOS settings - It simply can't be done

I am not using a wireless connection. I am connecting my USB cable from my Z2 to the PC and using it as a modem to browse the web. The problem is PC Companion doesn't detect the phone being connected to the PC while it is USB tethered. I have to disconnect USB tethering first for PC Companion to detect my phone. I thought ticking "allow updates when using my phone as a modem" will allow me to update it while using it as a modem simultaneously.

as Thommo said, you can't use your phone to download the update through PCC
