I got a notification to update to the latest android on my Z3 Compact this morning, and went ahead with it. Since then, it's been hanging in my notification pulldown 'Xperia system update... Installing' with a swiping bar. It's been like this for about 10 hours. I've subsequently tried restarting the handset, then a soft reset, but it just kept going back to 'installing' with nothing happening.
I tried to plug it into my Mac and update via the Sony Bridge app but it tells me I don't have enough free memory (need at least 500MB) to update, despite having over 1GB free. At a bit of a loss as to what to do, have searched extensively but no one else seems to be having this issue. The phone is still operational but I'd like to know how to safely cancel it and get the update to work.
Hope someone has an idea, thanks in advance!
Settings > apps > all > menu > sort by size > wait > wait > wait > open the top 10 apps > clear data and uninstall updates > then try to update the phone again.
So you're saying I just need to free up even more space? What effect does uninstalling updates have?
Seems there was a discrepancy between what the phone was telling me I had free and what the Bridge app saw. Managed to transfer a bit more data to the SD and delete a few superfluous apps and got 1.8GB free on the device and 0.8GB according to Bridge, it's now running through the update. Will let you know if it worked. Thanks for your help!
