Hi all,
I tired to do an update on a Sony Xperia M, OTA, and it stopped half way through. More worryingly, the phone doesn't turn on, and doesn;'t get recognized in device manager. I tried whatever I could to flash the ROM that should be in the phone, but it doesn't even bother to start.
PLEASE HELP!!! AND please, give serious answers. Answers saying that I have to look into a Sony website, which will say that I will have to donwload Companion are seriously not acceptable at this current moment; PC companion DOESN't recognise the phone!!!
Running on Win 8.1, if that helps.
You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 80% battery.
Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).
Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).
It seems as though you didn't understand what I wrote. PC Companion DOES NOT SEE THE PHONE!!!!!! Not normally, not if I try power + Volume Up, Not when I try power + Volume Down. Not in any, after trying everything that I saw as a "help" in this website. So please, don't waste my time and yours saying typical stuff because it does NOT work!
This post has received over 100 views, yet nobody bothered saying something! No one!!! I guess that many people that saw this probably have a clue about what to do, but didn't bother to say it.
Either ways, it turns out that I definitely have made the correct choice for having an iPhone over the last few years. Apple has a proper support center, and Apple community members spend a minute or two helping those who need it! And actually Apple makes good phones! Unlike Sony, of which no phone that I've ever used has turned out to be as good as it was supposed to.
So, unless someone bothers to give a proper response, I call this case closed, throw the Xperia M (it is someone else's, as I said I have an iPhone) into recycling on their behalf, and move on advising everyone NEVER to buy a Sony smartphone!
Have you tried to contact your local sony team?
