Unstable 3G connection

I haven't found anything similar to what I'm experiencing with my SXS. Occasionally, about a third of the time, wireless internet would just stop working on my phone despite having full 3G signal bars. This would sometimes happen even while I'm in the middle of browsing, and usually takes a long time to get back to working (I'm not sure how long, but I just abandon the phone for a bit out of frustration). This affects all Internet-related apps, EXCEPT Whatsapp. Curiously, I can still receive messages on Whatsapp.

I think I noticed this happening more after the official ICS update. I've done a factory reset, and it still failed even before I'd reinstalled any apps. I've switched out SIM cards too to no avail, so it's not a network problem. Restarting the phone sometimes fixes it, but it's too seldom for me to be certain. Neither does toggling Airplane mode or the Data. No problems with Wifi.

I'd rather not turn it in to the Service Center as that would take 1-2 weeks. Anyone else experienced this, or have any idea what's up?

Cheers.

Strange that Whatsapp continues to work when every thing else goes down. I suggest that you try to do a software repair using PC Companion to see if it helps.

Let me know how it goes.

I'm having similar problems with my Xperia S after upgrading to ICS. It was more or less perfect before the upgrade and now at random I would lose my 3G/Data connection with no visual change in signal level or indicators on the phone. I'm normally travelling a lot but in the last 2 months I have been in my home office most of the time and it still happens while mostly stationary. I have another Xperia X10 also on O2 and that one has not dropped 3G/Data in years.

For me, restarting the phone always solves the problem and toggling Airplane does not solve it.

I'm seeing other people posting similar issues on different networks: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Sony/Sony-Xperia-S-ICS-3G-H-Data-signal-dropping-out-Any-suggestions/..., so this does seem to be a bigger issue, but it seems very random.

One thing I have not checked or noticed is if it recovers by itself. In all cases where I have seen this happen, I have not received emails for a number of hours and as my business relies on me on email all the time, so I restart the phone immediately to get back online and can't afford to leave it indifinitely to see if it recovers from this.

Can you please explain how the PC Companion repair will solve this problem or will assist if Ooib has already done a factory reset? I'm happy to try steps that will resolve the problem, but as this is a business phone with many apps and email accounts on it, I'm reluctant to waste time on steps that won't fix the problem, especially if this is potentially a bigger issue linked to ICS or the build that we are running on these phones.

Thanks

Jacques
