unread email notifications shows old already deleted emails

I realy like the feature to show me unread emails count on my lock screen. Unfortunatelly recently it started to inform me about emails that have been already deleted from my mailing account.

Is there any way to cleare cache etc. for this app/widget/system element/whatever in Android?

Check if clearing cache for the E-mail app could fix this.

Settings > App's > All > E-mail > Clear cache.

Thank you. In the meantime I've discovered that Email client is also counting emails moved to my thrash bin and ie. visible on Exchange Trash through my Outlook client.

Whenever someone has a similar problem I am advising to clear trash bin or mark all messages in the Trash bin read
