My girlfriend is travelling and has put a Thai SIM card into her unlocked Xperia S. She called me on another phone with the SIM in it and explained that when she powered on her Sony, it was asking for a PIN code. She says she has never set a PIN on her phone. I'm unsure what type of SIM it was asking for because she didn't really know and it was hard to understand her due to bad connection.
Does anybody know what the problem might be? I am going Bangkok tomorrow and would like to sort the situation out. I am also concerned for myself because I amplanning on putting a Thai SIM into my unlocked Xperia SP and don't want the same issue.
Above when I wrote "unsure about what type of SIM", I meant "unsure about what type of PIN".
Is the phone locked to a carrier? network branded? if it is then you will have to get the unlock code from that carrier or pay to a website to do it for you, unlockforcheap its a good option
Hi uliwooly. The phone was bought online outright and unlocked. She uses a Lebara prepaid SIM in Australia.
if the phone was unlocked then there shouldn't be a problem unless there is a password, pin lock or encryption password. You could repair the phone with SUS and see if that helps

Alternatives on How to backup Xperias
I updated the phone last week and it will be hard to use PC companion as unsure whether we could do that at an internet cafe. I sent her a text last night to her borrowed phone telling her to enter "0000" to see if it works but have heard no answer.
When I get there I will try "1234" and if no luck, tell her to enter her ATM PIN in case she did set a PIN and forgot.
I will enter a PIN lock into my SP in case I have the same trouble as I want to use it for many things over there. I will update this post on my progress in case anyone else has the same problem and needs a solution.
Use SUS instead of PCC, but make sure to back up everything
