Have you tried using other SIM cards in this phone? Is the phone locked to an operator?

No its not locked to any operator.I have two Vodafone India sim cards and both have stopped working.I have travelled to Netherlands and tried to use a Lebara sim and that is also not working on TheM4 Aqua.
I tried the Lebara sim card on another sony Xperia and it works fine

I am facing the same problem. I used 2 Nano-SIM-Cards from different providers, which work flawlessly with other phones. After having problems I tested every possibility of having one or two sim cards in the phone.

Most times I enter a pin I will not get a cellular connection, sometimes I get one and will lose it after a short period (at the same physical location). I am living in a big city and always have very good network reception (2G, 3G, 4G). The strangest effect occurs very rarely (I invested a lot of time in testing!): trying to enter a pin will show the message: Operation not supported.

When I loose the connection and try to disable/enable the sim card in settings, It never finishes enabling and stays there forever.

My phone software version is 1291-5965_26.1.B.1.85 GLOBAL-LTE-DS-user .

At the moment, my M4 Aqua is absolutely useless as a phone.

Is there any resolution to this issue. The device is not useful as a phone any more.

 Hi @Mbn_nair

Could you try boot your device on Safe mode and see if this issue persists:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008#U348008

I also suggest you to first run a backup of the device information like this:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/Backup-amp-Transfer/m-p/407253#U407253

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion:

http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/

This will factory reset your phone and erase all data. You might need tocharge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 80% battery. Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device). Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process. If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP.

I hope can be useful.

I'm at disposal for any question.
