touch screen & memory card issues

I've had my xperia mini ST15 for about 6 months. A couple of months ago I noticed that the return button next to the home button was getting 'stuck', as in it continually pressed and released itself. The only way it would stop was if you removed the battery (the off button wouldn't work as the affected system cancelled it). this has continued to happen on a daily basis and now the phone is telling me my sd card is unmounted even though it isn't. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem(s) might be and how to fix it myself? Thanks for your help.

This does sound like a couple of potentially hardware issues that may require repair, however it would be worth running a software update first to at least rule out software.
