Hi, bought the xperia Z1 from three in january to replace a lost or stolen phone. after purchase I noticed my signal and connection was very poor compared to my previous phone, just pressumed it was down to network provider and they gave me a reduced bill for 3 months, found that signal was getting worse and eventualy found I could'nt even pick up the three network at all. after talking to three again it was established that the handset was at fault and not the provider, so they organised it to be collected by sony for repair...now I have only had the phone since january 2015 and Iv'e taken great care with it and I have kept it in pristine condition but sony want to charge me as the problem with the phone is electrical.. how can this be?
Now this phone I had to buy seperate from three as my phone I got with my contract went missing (pressumed stolen), I was expecting a new phone but when it arrived it had no box etc, only a piece of paper with refurbished written on it...I queried this with three and they assured me it was just a phone that had been returned as not wanted, but today I found out that the phone had been sitting on three's shelf for over 12 months before I even got it, so in the eyes of sony it's warranty is almost out..
anyone else had this problem and what did you do about it?
cheers
I am assuming you are in the UK based on your IP so this reply is based on you been in the UK
If you have 2 years warranty and lets say for example you are given a refurbished item that has as you say been on a shelf for a year then that won't effect your warranty - You warranty won't start from 2 years but will carry on from the time used - But refurbished has many meanings - Damaged packaging, Ex display etc or a factory repaired device that has been fully tested,
However regarding the network issue - if your device is less than 6 months old then or you reported this issue within 6 months then they need to prove you damaged your device through misuse and if they can't beyond reasonable doubt then they have to replace it for free
If you bought it outright or via a contract from Three then it is them that need to deal with the 6 month consumer law or if direct from Sony then Sony is who you would deal with - It makes my blood boil when retailers pass the buck to the manufactures breaking the laws we have
