The 2.3.4 Update has not fixed the compass problem! Why?

I just received the 2.3.4 update on my Mini Pro sk17i (1249-0810) and the long known compass problem has not been fixed.

this Problem:http://groups.google.com/group/google-sky-map/browse_thread/thread/39a02626e0cc6de

as it is a known driver problem (according to a google employee that is working on google skymaps) ... why has SE not fixed it with the 2.3.4 update?

i am a little disappointed about this situation, as i hoped to get a working compass with this update

maybe SE can push a driver fix to their customers. as there is no announced update-plan

Don't know when or if there can be a fix for this. It might be as simple as that the 2.3.4 software was already sent for testing and approval before this could be added and that it's scheduled for the next update (just guessing now).

I will see if I can find more accurate information.

EDIT: Please post the build number in your phone. Settings > About phone > Build number. (I need this for the escalation).

I registered the escalation yesterday. I will add this information to the escalation.

As soon as I get some good input I will update you in this thread.

here are some updates to my question...

i have done some testing on the weekend and here are my results

the overall direction is working, so no north-south and east-west swap as before

but the finetuning doesn't work properly... it is jumpy and sometimes nearly 30 degrees of the real direction... even with calibration

i hope that info helps a little

Thanks! I added this information to the ticket. I have received some feedback already so I know they are looking into this. As soon as they deliver their final comment/response I will let you know. Slightly_smiling_Face

I've received an answer now.

The people I reported this to have done some more testing with the latest software version in this phone model and they are unable to reproduce this issue now.

Their advice is to send the phone to a service centre if you still have this problem since it's supposed to be solved now.

My suggestions is to make sure the applications you're currently using is working fine (so you're not sending a fully working phone to service in vain). The easiest way would probably be to try with a different app and see if you still experience similar issues.

Could you explain how do you determine that you are 30 degrees off the real direction?

I would like to check mine as well.

The more details and instruction you gave, i can learn more.

Thanks
