Texting issues

I'm new to the forums, so forgive me if this has already been handled.

I have a problem with my Z1s. If I switch screens, hit the power button, or just hit back after sending a message before the "sending message" dialog disappears, it won't go away without jkilling the messaging app. 

It's rather frustrating to see.

Also, why won't the new message notification go away if I'm already looking at the message string? It only goes away after replying or backing and then going back into the string.

This sounds quite odd. Are you using the standard messaging app or any 3rd party messaging app? 

You can try to clear data for messaging under settings > apps > all > messaging > clear data. Restart your phone and try again if you still experience the same behavior.
