so i just bought an xperia white, mostly because i heard it was a decent starter smart phone and because it was the best one my provider offered. i was fooling around with it on lunch and added a signature to my texts and now WHENEVER i text for EVERY single text, my name comes up beside it.
i've only found one thread about it on the forums, and there was no solution. I like the versatility and styling of the OS texting, and tbh absolute hate the handcent styling. Not to mention i don't really want to have two competing messaging apps on my phone at once..
there some sort of walk around backward solution for this??
I know I tried to help the other thread but could never find a way to get rid of it. Do you know what route you took to put it on there in the first place?
I wonder if you are going to have to revert it to factory settings to get rid of it. Edit... don't think that will work having read the thread I responded to on AndroidForums.
Or maybe in Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Messaging try the clear data... altho it could just delete your texts, in which case I'd copy your texts to your sd card if there are ones you want to keep.
it's funny your should say that. I tried clearing the cache from the messaging app, and it didn't do anything. I even went as far as going on my providers livechat help, who told me to do a factory reset. Still didn't work. Maybe the data is on the actual SD card? Is there any essential information stored on the card that would harm my phone if i were to clear the card permanently?
HUZZAH!!! FIXED!!!
For those having this same issue. There are two ways to do it, both of which are on your phone.
1. Browse your providers website looking for the service "Extreme Text Message" or "Enhanced Text Message". Doing this should allow you to find a mobile link which will bring you to the setup page. As my provider is Rogers (Canada), my link was: www.rogers.com/m/extremetext
2. Again, as I can only explain in the terms that my service provider operates; Rogers has an app which comes with all smartphones called, "My Account". It's a simple app, and it is used by consumers to quickly pay their bill with their credit card on the phone, as well as adjust any plan add-ons such as MY5/Fave5, etc.
Hope this helps the people that are just as confused as I was. This is NOT an issue with the Xperia's, and as far as I can tell, the issue isn't too common; most people seem to figure it out for themselves.
If you can't find any info, you may want to try googling, "Extreme Text Messaging" follow by your service provider
I would get yourself a File Manager from the market and have a look at whats on your SD card. There does appear to be quite a lot on mine. No clue what half of it is. Did you just clear cache in yours or clear data, in the manage applications bit, cos there was 0 in my cache but 8 in my data.
Any clue how you put the signature on there because I couldn't see where you put it on in first place. The only thing I know you can put a signature on is the email application, unless you are using Handcent or Chomp SMS programmes.
it's cool, i fixed it, and i appreciate your attention and help :smileyhappy:. turns out the signature wasn't based in the phone at ALL. It was something i changed myself (which i knew i had done) within my services on the plan. I was just under the impression that it was something i changed within the phone...
but the phone comes with that file manager that comes up when u plug in the phone to the computer. Since I will mostly be using my computer to charge up my phone i don't see files being toio much of an issue.
thanks again =D
