Text Messaging not working

Text Messaging not working

Hi there,

I have had an Xperia SP for about 4 months and it is completely up to date with all software and system updates. I've also got an SD card in and transferred all photos and videos to it so there is plenty of available space on the phone memory. Unfortunately, over the last 2 days, messaging appears to have stopped working altogether. It takes a good 2 minutes to even open messaging when I click on it and I am not able to click on anything on the screen after that. Meaning I cannot click on messages already in there, nor can I click on the compose new message symbol, nor can I go to settings at all. Eventually, after clicking on something and waiting a lifetime, it comes up with the dialog box that it has stopped working and did I want to stop it or close it now. Even when I try and press the home or back button, it takes about a minute before registering it and it still brings up the dialog box.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get this to work again? Messaging is one of the main things I do with my phone and it's just a tad annoying to not be able to use it.

Thanks,

Christine

Try settings-apps-all-xperia keyboard,clear data.See if that improves.

Have you tried the suggestion from Alexdon?

Also try to clear data for messaging that you'll find under the same menu.

Restart the phone and try again.

If you still experience the same behavior I would suggest that you try to boot your phone into safe mode to see if the problem may be related to any 3rd party app that you have installed in your phone:

Hi!

So after I posted my original message, I stopped programs running, switched the phone off and restarted and the phone appeared to work for a few days. However today, it has completely stopped working again. I haven't installed anything new, I've transferred all photos and videos to the SD card, there's loads of free space on the phone under storage and I've tried pretty much every single thing I can think of and still it's not working.

I now have the phone running really slowly, updates affecting pretty much everything running, messaging not working at all (back to the original problem of not opening, taking up to a minute to register anything including under settings, before telling me it's not working), the system crashing completely and telling me it's not working.

I've cleared the data from the keyboard as suggested. This has made no difference. I've cleared the cache on everything going. If I clear the data from messaging, won't this delete all of my messages? I'd rather not have to do that if possible, especially if there's the possibility it won't even fix the problem. On checking my phone account, I've actually only had the phone for just under 3 months. I don't really think it's acceptable to be unable to use it after such a short period of time. Any help greatly appreciated.

Clearing data for messaging app does not delete all of your messages. They are stored on the app called 'phone/messaging storage'.

Have you tried to start the phone in safe mode as suggested above to see if the problem may be related to any 3rd party app that you have installed in your phone:

I have the same problem but it has been fix after reinstalling the software using PCC...it kind of annoying I have Disabled the stock SMS app and use Evolve SMS app...and after a few week I reinstall the software using PCC and it works like a charm...repair the software using SUS didn't work I have tried it 4 times in a row but the problem still exists... The only way is to reinstall the software using PCC and it works like a charm...

Hi there

New to Xperia after moving from iPhone. Loving it but seem to have the same problem regarding the Xperias messaging app. Opens, but hangs, cant access any messages, then says it needs to close. I have started it in safe mode then it works fine.

What 3rd party apps are known to cause problems for the messaging app? Hopefully not WhatsApp?

Hi there, my problem is with messaging also, but problem is when I try to go into correct spelling listing mode the whole text messaging crashes and I get the message "unfortunately messaging has stopped" & my Entire message convo gets deleted, don't know really what is the problem¿ it even happens when I write a gmail, @ times, so afraid to use the listing for correct spell, so instead I just backspace and correct it that way, any suggestions any help would be really really appreciated, THANKS! ✌
