What exactly happens when trying to tether. Does the connection terminate?

Ok,tq for the response , when tethering to nb the network connection icon on taskbar get the small yllow mark which is sometime show the status of limited connectivity and sometimes failed. But after several time trying to connect it suddently  ok but not to long, the yellow mark display again on the netwok icon at nb taskbar. The internet browser will loose the page and displayed the netwok assistant to determine the root cause and the result is DNS fault which is cause by AP or wifi hotsport devices. On the nb site i'm trying flush dns but yet to resolved. FYI, I've to tether to nb because of i'm access the portal from my office which is cannot support from xps browser.

With this information, I believe this could be related to the handsets software due to the fact that DNS is faulting when trying to translate hostnames. I would suggest performing a software update on the device to resolve this.

After you flush the ip settings on your phone, is the network address (IP Address, gateway, DHCP & DNS server) properly assigned by XPS? The addrss for the gateway. dhcp & dns server should be the same. If they're not, just set them manually.

Before you update, test this out first.

Disable any other network connection

Since you're in the office, make sure your network cable is not connected to your nb when you're tethering.

Check if your phone is able to access the internet as well

When the issue happens on your nb, try to open your brwser on your XPS at the same time and see if you're able to see the same website as well. If you can't as well, the problem is your internet access. If you can, then try next.

Disable the Security for you Wi-Fi hotspot.

This is to test if there is compatibility issue with the security & encryption settings on your laptop.

To disable this, on your XPS, go to Setting > Wureless & networks > Tethering > Port. Wi-Fi hotspot settings > Configure Wi-Fi hotspot, and select 'Open for Security.

Now try to connect with your nb again. Wait about 1 min or so, just to make sure that all the network settings are set and try to open your internet browser. If there's no problem, it means our nb does not support or is incompatible with the security settings on your xps. Which means you need to disable the security on your XPS for tethering.

However, if the problem still persist, try tethering using usb cable. If that still fails, you might need to update or re-flash your phone.

Hi zann.h, thank for the guidance. Actually  i've been tethered without any problem before this. Not only for nb it working fine for ipad as well, but lately. It becomes unstable conditions. So far it working fine by tethering with USB, but it's not practical to carry a usb cable all the time. I suspect it was something with software like a jack posting before. I've try installed third party tethering software from google play and it working fine until internal xps tethering software get interfere and changed automatically SSID.

Hi jake, may I know what services will be updated by performing this? Since I 've already update the build numb to ".73". is't the kernel or other services.tq

if the ssid change because u're in motion, then it's normal. even when browsing on your phone. all u need ot do is just refresh the page. but if the ssid keeps changing while u're at the same place, or only walking a few feel. then it's mostly because you'relocated between 2 ssids. iin that situation, i usually set my phone tohspda or gam only!=. that way it doesn't keeps switching so often.

if the issue is indeed due to software, try a factory reset or force the update to reinstall everything again. since not many xps users are facing this issue, means that it's mostly data corruption. a simple force update, to reinstall the firmware should fix.
