Hi,
I purchased a telstra nextg sim to put in my new-ish x10a. That worked. Then I went to port my old optus/virgin number across with several problems.
The old number is in limbo and the only thing that I can find which might explain it is this link. The sim that works has a square contact and the ones that don't have a rounded contact areas.
Has anyone heard of this problem and a possible fix? I'd like to get the old number across but I don't know if you can ask for a 'sim with a square contact area'.
Thanks,
Ian
so you have
Simcard 1 with a phone number but then you got a new simcard (simcard 2) with a new number, and you want the old number on the new simcard?
you should get a new simcard w/o a number in it, so your network can transfer the number
Hi,
no. I did exactly what you said. The second sim was attached to the ported number before it was handed to me. It works in some of the telstra shop's demo phones but not my x10a. The only difference between...
...is the shape of the circuit contact as per this link;

but I don't believe they would make something that didn't work and not know about it.
Thanks for trying to help,
Ian
Hi,
I went old school on the 'new' sim, which wouldn't work, and put a piece of paper in there to help it make better contact. That fixed it! I've heard stories of people going through half a dozen sims trying to find one that the phone's pins liked but hadn't experienced it myself.
Not sure who to blame here so I'll take it on myself for being silly enought to change carriers and expecting the salespeople to be able to help.
I'm still trying to explain to the call centre that I just need my credit/data transferred from one of the telstra numbers to the other but that's confusing them. Fun stuff.
Thanks everyone,
Ian
I'm glad it's working now
