There can be a number of causes for this problem, however can you please advise how intermittent the problem is and if you have found it occur only when you use the phone in particular places?

Ok, at least it sounds like more of a sofware issue rather than hardware. With this being the case I would advise running a repair:

1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

If the repair made no change to the performance then I can only advise returning the handset for assessment by an authorised repair agent sorry.
