I have been enjoying using my Tablet Z as of the past month but it was to my disappointment that the build quality is not what I expected.
I was charging my tablet and accidentally knocked it off my bed onto a carpeted floor, to my shock the flap protecting the charging port broke off from this small fall onto a soft surface.
I own the Xperia Z smart phone and because of the different design in flaps this would never happen to it!
I'm very disappointed as now the tablet is no longer waterproof, little lone uniform in design.
Is this kind of damage covered under warranty? I believe this is a design fault as the flap should be able to withstand a 30cm fall.
Thanks,
James
Sorry to hear that your cover came off.
Depending on how the tablet (or phone for that matter) hits the ground and from what height it might brake. I recommend that you contact a service location for repairs but damages caused by dropping the tablet are not covered by warranty so you may have to pay for repairs.
You've got no chance. I bought a Viao Duo 11 at a cost of around a thousand quid. Whilst sat on a rug on the floor it slid off my knee, just a few inches to the floor, landed flat on it's base yet four keys came off and the flimsy plastic things that hold them in place broke. I asked if it was covered by warranty - I had only had it a few weeks - and they weren't interested.
I have dropped many laptops in the past with no problems with keys falling off. I have spent thousands of pounds on Sony equipment in the past few years but never again if that is what we can expect.
I understand where you are coming from too Lee and I even agree with you. I have sold technology items for over 10 years, including mobile phones and laptops and I have heard every excuse in the book with regard to claims and I fully agree that manufacturers (or retailers) can not be expected to cover accidental damage.
However there is no getting away from the fact that a item or items such as this SHOULD be of sufficient build quality to withstand a light knock and in the case of James and myself - assuming we're telling the truth - they're not. If they were they would not have broken and discussions about claims would not be taking place. We are not talking about dropping them from a distance onto solid concrete.
The point is for the price paid, bearing in mind that Sony are at the higher end of the mass market, they should be of better quality than this and it is unacceptable.
I had a similar issue with my Tablet Z just today... I forgot to close the charging port and shut my case on it... snapping the flimsy flap in half. It's still in one piece and shuts perfectly well... but it's a bit of an annoyance. Is there anywhere you can buy replacement flaps?
I have a similar problem:
The usb-flap must have been half opened during closing of mu cover. At first it had a little 'breakline' in the middle; a week later it broke.
Very very poor build quality, especially since the flap is needed for being waterproof..
Even worse: it's not possible to order a replacement-flap and Sony says it will take THREE weeks to repair.
Think this will be my last Sony.
Meanwhile found, ordered and replaced the part:
Hi
Just joined the community and would be looking forward to comunucating with new friends on the forum.
Hi
I saw that you managed to find a replacement for the USB cover of the Sony Exoeria Z tablet.
Can you please tell me if this is easy to change and if possible how one can go about it.
Thanks for your help
Did you manage to replace the USB cover, is there a process that you may post please?
