Sync Icon not disappearing

So, I turned on my phone this morning and noticed that the Sync icon was displayed. I assumed that this was because of checking my email. But as the day went by, the icon still remained. I turned off the phone and turned it on again. Disabled Data, Roaming, Wifi, etc. And yet it still continues to remain. 

Does anyone know what is causing it? Is it possibly fromstuff updating on the play store?

It could be the play store, it could be Facebook, check on safe mode

Once I am on safe mode, how do I check what is trying to sync?

If the icon appear then it's a preloaded app like Google+ or Facebook

OK, it must be one of those. Is there a way to make them so they don't try to sync? I have looked at settings but cant seem to find anything.

Check auto backup on Google +

It wasn't that, it is still trying to sync.

How many accounts are you trying to sync? 

settings > accounts > remove all the accounts > restart your phone > check again
