Superior auto

Hi, in one of the reviews I read about the 'Superior Auto' feature it was stated that this mode does not capture in the maximum resolution of 20MP.

Is there a reasoning behind this? Seems strange to me that the mode used by most consumers won't take full advantage of the resolution available.
