“Sorry! The application Home screen (process com.sonyericsson.homescreen) has stopped unexpectedly. Plesae try again. Force Close"

My phone was working perfectly until I was prompted to update my phone to Android 2.1.1. yesterday.  Since then, each time I switch on my phone I get the message “Sorry! The application Home screen (process com.sonyericsson.homescreen) has stopped unexpectedly. Plesae try again. Force Close"

I went back to the PC companion and clicked repair your firmware with PC companion which reset all my settings. Although this meant my phone was cleared of all data I could at least access the home screen and other applications this time.

I chose to restore my phone with my last backup, and downloaded all my apps again and set up a security pass again. Everything seemed to be ok. I turned my phone off last night when I went to bed.

When I turned it on this morning I got the message “Sorry! The application Home screen (process com.sonyericsson.homescreen) has stopped unexpectedly. Plesae try again. Force Close" It now won’t load any details as it keeps repeating the same error message.

I have since taken out my battery, sim and memory card and restarted the phone but it still won’t load the homescreen or any other details. I shouldn’t need to click repair on the PC companion again as I have already done this and it fixed the problem until i turned my phone off and on.

What is the solution please?

I don't have the same problem with the Home screen but I am getting the same message about the email process following my upgrade to  2.1.1.  yesterday.  Repairing the software didn't fix it for me either.  You have my sympathies.

Does anyone know if it's possible to roll back to a previous version of Android?

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem since yesterda.

Except that I can't repair my phone at all: PC Companion give me an error when I try to download the software.

The error is like:

"Unable to install or to start phone's software update component" (I'm french so I give you the exact translation, message could be slightly different in other langages).

I've tried a couple of time but the message is still the same.

If anyone has an idea, because I'm completely stuck.

I can still receive phone call, but nothing else (I can't even check my contacts or my messages).

I don't know if it will help but you could try running the repair / reinstall using Sony Ericsson Update Service

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/topic/1.433308/xperiax10?cc=gb&lc=en

This will wipe your phones contents and reinstall the software, hopefully resolving the issue.

It would also be useful if you could post your location / carrier / where phone was purchased ie country if different to your current location to see if there are any common themes here.

Thanks for your answer.

I'll try this in the evening and let you know if it goes better.

I'm in France.

I bought my phone in december at a mobile phone reseller in Paris.

It has been working completely fine until yesterday.

I also submitted my problem directly to Sony Erricson.

It appears I contacted UK support (don't know why PC Companion sent me there).

They forwarded my problem to France support team.

I don't care about losing data on my phone (in fact, I do care, but it's nothing compared to the actual situation).

Hello,

As I said above I have used the PC companion repair facility and although it fixed the problem last night, turning my phone on this morning showed that the problem has returned which indicates the problem is deeper rooted then the repair facility can fix.

Are you suggesting I wipe the phone again for a second time???

My location is the South of the UK, the phone was purchased in the UK and I don't know what you mean by carrier? My service provider is Virginmobile.

I have not had any stupifying errors like this before. Only immediately after I upgraded my phone yesterday. It is only 3 or 4 months old.

I would give it one last try with the Update Service rather than PC Companion.  If that doesn't work I would get in touch with Virgin with a view to getting it repaired or exchanged.

The update service worked where PC Companion just gave me an error.

I lost everything but at least I can use my phone.

I'll configure it again and let you know in a couple of days if the problem is definitely solved.

Thank you very much suze, you saved my day  Slightly_smiling_Face

Thank you.

I must admit that i was dubious, but the internet download seems to have fixed the issue!

I have restored my previous data and turned the phone on and off a few times and it seems to be working fine now!

I am now slowly downloading my Android Apps to check if one of them contributed to the error, so i will update when that is finished and I have switched my phone off and on a few more times!

But thanks for now.

Fingers crossed you are both now sorted.  Enjoy your phones!
