Z1 camera consistent problem:-
Settings:
1. iAuto, Auto Flash ON, Indoors, flourescent lit room, result - photo is washed out - overexposed. Its so overexposed its not even remotely acceptable.
2. iAuto, Flash ON, indoors, flourescent lit room - results same as above.
3. iAuto, Flash OFF, indoors, flourescent lit room - not overexposed, but now its Noisy.
What seems to be the problem Sony?
What is the fix? I am not going to use Manual because this is such a basic requirement for iAuto I should not be messing around with settings. Even a basic point and shoot camera does the job just fine.
Post some picture samples
Here are the 2 images that explain my question.
The room is flourscent lamp lit. 230V 50Hz. I am not sure if the 50Hz is causing problems with the camera iAuto.
If you look intot the details of the files, the ISO for Auto_Flash ON is higher that Flash OFF photo, which doesn't make sense.
The first photo below is shot with iAuto & Auto_Flash.
I looked at the details of the file and its shows:
f/2
1/125sec
ISO-2500
Center Weighted Average
Flash, auto
The next photo below is taken with iAuto & Flash switched OFF.
The details of the image file is as follows:
f/2
1/32sec
ISO-1000
Center weighted average
No flash, compulsory
As a reference I use my old phone the Samsung S3 for the following shots:-
See the ISO selection below. For auto-flash image the camera selected ISO 250 and without flash the camera selected ISO 1000. This makes more sense the Sony Z1's iAuto!!
To say that I am utterly dissapointed with Sony Z1 is a huge understatement.
My 1.5 years old S3 takes better photos that the Z1.
When can Sony update its firmware to improve the Z1?? Please!!!
Auto flash ON. No other settings no change from standard.
Details of image file:-
f/2.6
1/30 sec
iso-250
Center weighted average
Next file with Flash switched OFF:-
Image file details:
f/2.6
1/33 sec
ISO-1000
Center weight average
There are definitely some ISO and shutter speed selection problems with the iAuto program when the Auto_Flash is ON.
I just purchase this phone last week and have not fully tested other functions - who knows what else I might find?
I think Sony engineers need to test the iAuto program thoroughly before the next firmware release.
I have taken a lot of trouble just to post these photos.
I hope Sony engineers taken these issues seriously and make the improvements - ASAP obviously!
Both touch and dedicated shutter button produces the same overexposed photos. Not surprising of course.
If using touch and dedicated buttons were to produce different photo results then the Sony engineers who qualified the camera better start writing resumes.
I've seen that before your problem is
1. dirty lens
2. you have a protective case that its too close to the camera lens and/or the camera flash
3. your fingers are too close to the camera or the flash
@uliwooly, I appreciate you trying to help out.
But I would appreciate it if a Sony personnel were to answer to my questions.
I have been an engineer and a photo enthusiast for a long while so I think I know a thing or two how to operate a camera correctly.
@asroy
I have this Xperia and other Xperias, do you have a protective case and/or film?
if you want someone from Sony to answer directly:
