Sony xperia z3 will/wont charge

Hello

so i thought i would post the problem on here and all the methods i have tried to fix it.

Maybe someone will have another method.

Basically I own a Sony Xperia Z3

It died on me 5 days ago.

Battery was completely flat.

I place the phone on charge using the offical charger and micro usb cable which come with the phone (I have tested 3 other wires and 3 plugs along with a computer with 4 USB ports and a Laptop with 3 USB ports)

The phone's LED comes on with a dull red light, Charges for 2-3 seconds lighting the screen up showing the charging icon with a bolt sign above the battery icon then it stops charging (LED turns off and screen) and then starts to charge again (LED turns on and screen).

Just like you would expect from a lose connection while charging.

This continues until the phone reaches 0% above the battery icon, then it stops altogether.

Things i have tried:

I have tried pressing the power button but that kills the battery flat due to when the phone powers on the phone stops taking charge

I have tried holding the power button and the up volume key until it vibrates once (3 vibrates) this has different outcomes, Sometimes it kills the battery sending it back to the charge loop and sometimes it powers up to the Sony splash screen and die's.

On both computer and laptop i tried both power ups with different usb ports with and without the companion.

The phone was running the latest Marshmellow update, is not rooted and has has no recent drops

before the phone died i didnt sideload anything or perform any updates except the ones from google market hours before it died.

The phone has remained on charge continuosly since it went flat other then the few times i unpluged it to attempt it with a different wires, plugs and usb port's

What i have not tried is:

Magnetic strip charger as it may be a problem with the micro usb port in the phone however i dont want to buy a charger to find it doesnt work.

Charging the phone while the blue LED light is continuiosly on (Basically if i hold the power button and the volume up button for 2 vibrates (2 sets of 3 vibrates) then the LED light will become blue.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be great.

Thank You

(Side note: no insurance and warrenty has run out, Forced to use old sony xperia z1 currently)

I have also been into 4 different Sony Shops situated around Belfast Northern Ireland and basically they have all said that they do not deal with Sony mobile phones which in itself is kind of taking the buscuit.

Hi @Phily0810,

Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with charging your xperia.

Please try the following: Hold the power button and volume up button again until it vibrates 3 times, the connect it to the charger for 3 hours. Then, try a software repair using Xperia Companion.

If this does not work, it will need to be repaired. Your Local support team may still be able to arrange an out of warranty repair for you.

When you say vibrates 3 times do you mean:

buzz, buzz, buzz (This is once)

or do you mean

buzz, buzz, buzz,    buzz, buzz, buzz,    buzz, buzz, buzz (This is 3 times)

My phone doesn't seem to do single vibrates of only Buzzing once and then stopping. It does it in sets of 3's

@Phily0810,

It will be three short pulses. It's odd that it wouldn't do a single one, so hold it longer to get the 3. It doesn't matter if you hold the button combination longer than necessary.

Nothing happen'd i have already tested that.

however last night i decided to test charging it while it had a blue LED notification continiously showing.

The results are after 8 hours it was on 26%.

To get the phone to the blue led light i had to hold the power and volume up until it vibrated 2 sets of 3 pulses

E.g (Buzz, buzz, buzz...... Buzz, buzz, buzz)

I understand this is not normal behabiour however it is a short term fix until i can test the magnetic charging stations.

The reason why the blue led light worked

I believe the reason why it managed to charge on the blue led light and not the red led light is because when it charges on the red light it shows the display of the power icon and battery. When its on its blue light it displays nothing which is keeping the charge in

@Phily0810,

If you can manage to get some more charge out of it please do try the software repair using Xperia Companion. If this does not resolve the issue, contact your Local support team for a repair.
