Well long story short, my Xperia ZL failed after less than 2 months (the usual charging and reboot problem). I sent it in for repair. Now after 5 weeks they have given up and have offered me a Xperia Z replacement.
They promise me that it is fully compatable with AT+T. Maybe I am wrong but I didn't think it would work with AT+T LTE. They said the model is C6606 (new model?). Oh well learn something everyday. I'm glad to finally be getting my phone back.
The C6606 variant of Xperia Z support LTE band 4. From what i've been able to find AT&T does support this band but perhaps not everywhere. I would recommend that you contact AT&T to see if you can use LTE band 4 in your area.
I couldn't remember the bands, but I kinda remembered that. I was surprised too. New firmware or something? This has escalated after talking/messaging about 6 people at Sony. They guaranteed that it was so, I can't believe they would be wrong at this point. I did only get it verbally. Maybe I should get it in writing (message or something).
I just can't believe their upper tier support would be that un-informed (nicest way I could think to put it).
When we make a phone we usually have different versions of it supporting different bands/frequencies. As i understand it this is not firmware related but hardware.
I'm not sure the information i found is accurate but this page suggests AT&T has support for LTE band 4 in some cities: http://blog.gsmarena.com/nexus-4-works-on-lte-in-some-us-cities/.
In case there's any question about what bands C6606 supports when in contact with support, refer them to this specification: http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/c6606/whitepaper_EN_c6606_c6616_xperia_z_1.pdf
Well I called and I think you are right. One person at Sony Laredo agreed with you. Now I'm trying to stop them from shipping the wrong phone.
Funny now they can't find my info. Even with the Service Request Number, RMA #, or reference number. Even the direct dial numbers go to voicemall. Some seriously busy people.
