Sony Xperia Tipo - SD Card big problem - PLEASE HELP

I bought a Sony Xperia Tipo for my wife and am having a lot of problems with the external SD card I purchased separetely.

The card is a Class 10 MicroSD 32 gig.

What I have found so far is as follows:-

1. I cannot store any apps on the external SD card seemingly because Sony have programmed the phone to treat the internal storage on the phone as an external SD caed.

I have downloaded many different programs including Astro. It recognises the SD card as External storage but will not allow me to transfer anything to it.

2. I connected the phone with PC Companion. It reads the internal storage and the SD card but will not let me transfer anything to the SD card.

3. I usually use a program called Apps 2 SD on my own phone (HTC Wildfire S) to transfer apps to my SD card but because Sony Xperia Tipo programmed the internal storage as the CD card this will not work for me.

My Questions are as follows: -

1. Is there any method of transferring apps or indeed anything to the SD card without rooting the phone as I do not want to invalidate the warranty?

2. Of what use is PC Companion apart from updating the software if it will not allow apps or files to be transferred to or from the SD card?

3. Is there any program out there that will do this for me?

4. (very similar to 3) Is there an alternative to Apps 2 SD that will transfer apps to the SD card?

5. (Directed directly at Sony) Why did you include an SD card slot in the phone if it is of no use whatsoever to me?

I now have a 32 gig SD card lying dormant in the Xperia Tipo! Will Sony buy it back from me?

If anyone can help in any way to explain what the advantage of having a 32 gig SD card in the handset is, please please help!!!!!!

1. This phone has got a phone memory (for Android), a app memory (for apps) and a SD card for media (music, photos, videos etc). So yes, you can transfer music etc.

2. PC Companion can be used for a number of things, including file transfer. The file transfer-app in PCC will just open up windows file manager so if you don't want to use PCC you can just open up My computer and check for portable devices.

3. Windows file manager

4. Not that I know of.

5. Since music and videos are mainly the biggest storage-thieves we recommend that you use an SD card to store it.

Hi Sanya,

In the Tipo the internal memory is referred to as SD. If you add an external SD it is referred to as External SD. Did you transfer your music andpictures to the internal SD or the external SD? If so, what size is the external SD? It only supports up to 32 gig so this could be your problem. I suggest that you download AppMgr III. It's free from the play store. With this app you can see exactly what is on all of your memory including the external SD. The external SD cannot be used to store apps, only other files such as pictures and music etc. I have a 32 gig external SD in mine and I ransferred a selection of my music and pictures to the root drive of it with my laptop. It is important the you do not transfer folders, only files. Gallery and Music player will sort them into artists and albums for you. I really hope this helps. When you have downloaded AppMgr III and had a look at it get back to me if you are still having problems and I will see what I can advise you to do. Good luck!

The following is the reply I received from Xperia Support about this matter: -

So as you can see, apps cannot be moved to the external SD card only music, photos and videos. I was not pleased with the reply but it seems there is nothing we can do about it.

MirzaJafar,

Your SD card is only a waste of memory if you want to store Apps on it. As explained above, it can store music, pictures and videos. In theory this could provide you with more space for Apps if you currently store your music, pictures and videos on the internal memory because you can put them on the external SD instead and free up more space on the internal memory. I am only passing on the information Xperia gave to me. I was very disappointed too that apps could not be stored on the external SD. Not sure what to advise you about the volume. The volume on mine is quite loud.
