sony xperia ray update problem

when ever i connect my phone the pc companion notify`s me about different updats before it was some other one by now its android 4 and before i did not care much but now i actually want to updat emy phone and as i connect my phone i follow the steps and right after it says " connect the usb amd press the volume down button " after that step it gets error and says there is no update for your phone

also i have tryd updating via the direct update service and same thing says your phone already have the latest android version where as my phone has android  2.3.4 because i have never tryed updating before
