Sony PC Companion

Hi

Am I the only one having enormous problems in getting PCC to connect to my Xperia S?

If I am, then I must assume that there is a problem with my PC - XP Pro, SP3.

I've been trying since yesterday to get the phone connected, so that I can download the pictures I took last week, and also to backup my phone. I've tried all the recommended ways to connect - switched phone off, wait at least 30 seconds etc., etc. PCC will detect the phone, and I get a window headed "phone preparation" then, after being "busy" for around 10 seconds more, I get a window telling me there was a communication error, and that I should switch the phone off blah blah.

I tried using the "update app", but after switching my phone off, holding the "volume down" button whilst plugging the USB cable back in, all I get is a locked-up computer which I then have to cold boot.

Has anyone had these problems? Has anyone discovered another program which works instead of PCC?

There could be number of reasons for this. However what function specifically are you trying to get out this connection as I can likely offer another way to do so.

Hi Sam.

I installed PCC automatically the first time I connected my S to my PC. Even then, it would report "connection problem" about 1 in 5 times. I would go through the switch off phone routine and try again. It often worked, sometimes I had to repeat.

Now, I cannot get connected at all.

Although I want to use the somewhat limited functionality of PCC, I really would like to download the pictures I took last week on holiday with my grandchildren.

easiest way to do that is to set the USB debugging in the settings for developer options then you will be able to see all of the folders on the phone via windows explorer.

Just browse to the DCIM folder and they should be in there.

It's not an official way but i found it works better than PC Companion.

If you still want to use PC Companion then you will probably need to clear the data from the MTPApp application (if still on GB) but I found that the app for copying that you need to install (Media Go) isn't that good.

Alternativelly there is an app available from the play store called My PhoneExplorer - install on Phone and PC and once again you will be able to browse all of the folders.

Hope this helps Slightly_smiling_Face
