sony experia j does not work with my beats solo headphones?

I bought my daughter beats headphones for her xmas but they do not work in her sony phone? any advice please? its been away twice to be looked at by engineers and it came back with smart connect app on it but headphones still dont work? help please its driving her nuts!

Beats headphones use a type of technology which is incompatible with Sony or Sony Ericsson Phones. The Microphone on the Beats Headphones make it unworkable, if you use the lead without a microphone you will get playback but the volume would be a lot lower than normal. I would have thought Sam from the support team would have known this.

As far as I know most phone brands are compatible with the Beats Audio brand its just Sony that use the unique technology.

edit: Beats use CTIA Standard, you need Headphones that use OMTP Standard to work fully with the Sony/Sony Ericsson Brand

By messing around with my sony xperia j I found that if you push in the headphone cable very slowly then the sound will start to play through the beats
