Sony Bridge + MTP --- needs work

I know Apple get a lot of slating in the android world. But with my old iPhone 3GS I could put it in the dock, and it would sync. No brainer.

I love this ray, its a wonderful, small fast phone and with a 32gb SD card its a great media player. But seriously SE, fix Sony Bridge. If I want to use MTP mode, and for updates I have to apparently, then I get an approximate 2% success rate in getting Sony Bridge to recognise the phone. Thats a hell of a lot of extra wear and tear on the phone USB port.

its also SLOW. I gave up trying to use Bridge Sync. BUT the beauty of bridge sync is in transferring iTunes playlists. My paylists often have one or two tracks from a variety of albums. Syncing a playlist means I don't have to hunt and peck through a bunch of folders to pick out one or two songs at a time from each album....

SB often balloons processor time to 100% usage, and often falls over, so I had to sync a 25gb playlist 200 mb at a time. and did I mention it is SLOW. OK I've got aslower Class 4 SD card, but even so often SB just sits thee doing nothing.

Sony - I love this phone, but the software is VERY frustrating. Having to continually clear the MTPAPP data , reinstalling Sony Bridge etc is tiresome. Love or hate the iTunes/iPhone infrastructure - it largely works.

I went for a Ray as money is tight at the moment and the reviews of the phone praised it, and the software. Obviously no one reviewing it tried syncing with a mac! Anyone else with a mac got any tips for stopping me going insane 😉

I was using Winamp, but the problem is when it comes to updates - which rely on MTP mode. For the last 40 minutes, this phone hasn't even given the MTP icon in the status bar

Also i was getting wired sync on Mac if i used MSC with DoubleTwist

As far as I know, when you select settings>xperia>connectivity settings, MTP is the only option?

This is the reason the Xperia S won't sync to doubleTwist on the Mac, because the MSC option was removed from the new Xperia phones, and I think Windows has MTP support that the Mac doesn't.

With the Ray, there is an MSC option. But updates require MTP....

WOOHOO

1Hour 40 mins later, I finally get an MTP connection!

Sorry, I misread your question, on the Xperia S there is no MSC option you see.

Have you tried downloading the update OTA/do you have bootcamp?

Glad you got sorted Slightly_smiling_Face

No Bootcamp. I own no Windows machines, a conscious decision as I worked in IT for a while and I had enough headaches from it in work. I am about to try and replicate my success

I find it useful for the odd application like SEUS when it comes to updates, and doubleTwist because the Xperia S doesn't support wired syncing on the Mac yet Slightly_smiling_Face

Ok don' know what I did, and perhaps the reboot and swear technique I have perfected helped, but the MTP message is now reappearing in the status bar...  Its sucessfully populating the bar that shows the capacity of the SD card, but its not redected it yet....
