The Sony Bridge for Mac software is useless; there seems to be NO way to actually back-up or synch all of the phone contents, to keep it safe? This is basic stuff; have I missed something?
It seems to be only capable of copying from iphotos library (which I never use) & iTunes - nothing else. I tried adding folders - on the left where it says 'My folders' - but it's hopeless; it lists the folders but is unable to see any of the contents (these are the folders where I store my photos).
Is there any alternative or are Mac users stuck with this piece of rubbish?
And another thing - if I try to 'import photos' from the phone, even though I have checked 'show phone photos only', it insists on bringing up every single image on the phone, including all those I've transfered from my computer, which takes ages. Is this a bug?
Well, the Bridge for Mac software is used to manage content on phone and update/repair software. Backup software is included in the phone software.
Regarding the error in photo indexing I was able to replicate this. It seems to show more pictures then it should. I will escalate this internally.
Thanks - What 'phone software'? I have not seen any software that I can use to back-up the phone files / contents onto a Mac. This is normally a separate software that you need to install - such as 'Sony Bridge for Mac - & this is the only thing I found on the Sony website for Mac?
PS: There is also the issue I mentioned above that the 'add folders' function does not work - so I cannot transfer documents or anything at all onto the phone unless I first copy it into iPhoto (time-consuming and irritating and doesn't work for documents anyway). It doesn't 'see' any of the folders on my computer. (Not sure why it says 'presumed answered' above? It isn't).
You have an app in the phone called Backup. If you'd like, you can export this backup file to your Mac and keep it there.
If you click "Browse phone files" to the right, under Manage device, you can manage the files on the phone and add folders. Open up a separate Finder-window and just drag-and-drop the files you want transferred to your phone.
Thank you, but:
1) I cannot see any 'backup' app on my phone - is this something I have to download from somewhere?
2) Re. 'browse phone files' on the right - this simply brings up a window showing all the folders on the phone - but I cannot open any of them to view the contents (I've tried every kind of clicking but it just highlights the folder name in blue - nothing opens it). Nor can I add any folders to the phone; 'File' only gives me 'close window' & 'delete files'. There is NO option to add folders. There is also no folder called 'Documents' - so where am I supposed to put documents that I want to read on the phone?
3) My point above was different; it relates to how Sony Bridge accesses the photos on my computer. The option on the left 'My Folders'/'add folder' does not work. I have added folders where my photos are stored, but it refuses to open these; it just does nothing. So I am stuck with transfering every photo I want on the phone to 'iPhoto' (which takes ages & I would never normally use).
PS: The main issue is of course that Sony bridge simply does not work very well! it's completely unstable; it CONSTANTLY refuses to recognise the phone; fails to bring up all the phone content (e.g. cannot see all of the music already on the phone); frequently fails to 'see' photos even in 'iphoto'. I am tired of having to disconnect & re-connect the phone, & having to Quit & re-start Sony bridge just to get it to work properly. It really needs to be re-designed / cleaned up / fixed so it actually works.
AND another thing; I cannot even transfer music from iTunes onto the phone, as it only 'sees' about 3 tracks on certain albums, even when there are clearly about 12 tracks in iTunes; so I have a lot of incomplete albums on the phone with only 2-3 tracks copied across! There seems to be NO way of making it 'see' all of the tracks. It also fails to copy the album artwork to the phone in about 50% of cases, even though it is showing in Sony bridge.
AND NOW it won't even synch music at all!! I click 'synch' & it does nothing - but the synch button is now greyed out so I cannot do anything at all. I've quit and re-opened this useless piece of junk 5 times now but it does nothing.
Really there is SO much that does not work with Sony bridge, PLEASE SONY - you need to develop something that WORKS!
What a piece of junk, constantly hangs, doesnt import pictures, phone doesnt even mount as a volume on the desktop, which might have been some use. Yet another example of half-arsed software for Macintosh that shouldnt have even got out of Beta testing. I feel ripped off. Experia T, also loves freezing with a black screen and wont end a call - yet another useful feature of this battery scoffing fail. - Sorry but this is not a good phone. 007 would be dead by now using this.
