Sony Bridge for Mac fails with "Active Java not compatible"

I installed Sony Bridge for Mac 3.0 on Mac OSX 10.6, and it seems to work at first, but when i try to upgrade my phone it says

"Active Java version not compatible"

All requirements are fulfilled i think:

  • Sony Bridge for Mac 3.0 (3107)
  • Mac OSX 10.6.8 with all updates
  • Java SE 6 (1.6.0_33-b03-424) according to Applications>Utilities>Java Preferences

Any ideas?

PS: There is an old thread http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/36214 about the same issue with "Sony Bridge vor Mac 2.2", with no working solution

Hi hummervelcrap

Just to be sure try to update Java to the latest version and try again. (Java.com)

Let us know what happened.

One cannot update java for MacOSX from java.com, see http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp#apple :

Apple supplies their own version of Java. Use the Software Update feature (available on the Apple menu) to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java for your Mac.

The "Software update" function in my MacOSX 10.6 says that i am up-to-date and there are no pending updates. Is "Java SE 6 (1.6.0_33-b03-424)" not compatible?

No resolution yet? Seems like i am not the only one affected by this issue.

In the end, I had to upgrade my phone using the Windows computer of a friend ...

Version 1.6.0_033-b03-424 is the latest one for OS X, I got that one as well so that shouldn't be the issue. Not sure why Bridge gives you this error message.

Have you tried just re-installing the Bridge software? Does any other functions, music synchronization for example, work?

Hi,

Sorry to hear you have problems. Could you please tell me what processor you have in your Mac? Select "About this Mac" and copy the "Processor" information.

Best regards

/Nils

I've got the same problem, my Mac greatly surpasses the minimum system requirements for Sony Bridge for Mac.

I have a similar problem aswell. Described in this thread: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/47232.

I just made a backup of the data on phone, that worked. Update doesnt.

"Active Java version not compatible"

Intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz

Reinstallation of Bridge software had no effect.

Data/Music update is working, but when I try to update the smartphonesoftware Bridge fails.

New Ideas?

Hello,

I just purchased a Xperia U and installed Bridge for Mac (3.1 / 3118) on my iMac OSX 10.6.8 (2 Ghz Intel core duo)

Same issue as the other users: all other functionalities work, except for the software update.

The error message I get is "Active Java not compatible"

I have the latest Java SE 6 installed from Apple support.

Of course I've tried reinstalling Bridge for Mac, but nothing changed.

Any news about this issue? It is quite annoying not being able to get the update to ICS, since I choose this model just because of this version availability. Is there any solution in sight?

Thanks,

Fed
