I am having serious problems with the phone and it`s definitely somthing wrong with the software , firmware. i am using vista to run the software update. could someone please tell in if i have the lastest update installed and what it is because the phones firmware is on 1.6 , i have a feeling even though it`s telling me my phones updated to the most current software but i dont think it is. Also when i go into settings about the phone is says baseband unknown, would that make any problems arise.
If you do Menu>Settings>About Phone, then scroll to the bottom it will list your firmware and baseband.
I had trouble updating with the PC Compnaion so used Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS). I did the first update from my netbook but the second time it wouldn't go into boot mode so I had to use our PC and it went through fine.
The most up to date build is R2BA02* the last digit seems to range from 020 to 026. I am with Tmobile UK and have had the original R1BA016, went upto R2BA023 on the first upgrade then to R2BA026 on the second upgrade.
theres nothing wrong with your phone. 1.6 is the version of ANDROID, its also known as DONUT. this is supposed to be getting updated in september to 2.1 version known as ECLAIR. the software number you should look at is the BUILD NUMBER i.e. R2BA020 going up to R2BA026 this number is dependant on area & network from what i understand. to update this make sure your using Sony Ericssons update Service (SEUS) its far better than PC companion and the phones own update service. if your having a real problem with the phone working i'd suggest you use the update service(SEUS) and do a repair, just follow the instructions, its quite easy but may take a bit of time.
Hi, cheers for the info, my build number on the phone is 1.1.A.0.8 , Baseband unknown, I also updated using the 1 u said to use and still the problems are still there, looks like it`s £180 down the drain.:smileycry:
I dont recognise that build number. If you go into the test menu... from unlock screen, dont unlock but press
Menu Back Back Menu Back Menu Menu Back
then go into service info and then software info and see what it says.
Where did you buy it from... any way you can take it back? Alternatively contact SE to see if it can be repaired under warranty.
Yes, I agree. The SE Update Service software is far more stable, especially when used on a broadband landline. The margin of error during date compression/decompression is minimal, compared to the over the air service on hte phone and that very unreliable PC companion.
