I sure wish they are planning a firmware upgrade and one is in the pipeline. There have been so many reports that the smartwatch does not play well with the newest versions of the android and even the smartphones in the xperia line are affected. Also there is defineitely some issues with the gmail extension. I do not know where the problem resides? Maybe the gmail extension is the source of the error or the smartwatch 2 app has the bugs?
Also there are so many competitor smartwatches are being announced like the new meta from metawatch guys, the pebble steel edition, archos has three smartwatches announced, the kreos meteor, hot watch, omate truesmart etc. So if Sony wants to continue to be relevant in the smartwatch arena, they need to improve upon the sw2. Hardware is great, however software seems to fail. Also important and lacked by sw2 is the customization options. Needs better clockfaces or needs to open it up so one can replace the native clock. It is just stupid not to be able to change the wallpaper in the app drawer.
Anyhow, I am hopeful about a new firmware upgrade, but if that does not happen, I will look into other options and simply not look towards Sony when time to buy a new smartwatch comes.
