Another mildly annoying bug I found during my Marshmallow honeymoon has been that Smart Lock (configured to work with several Bluetooth devices, 1 NFC tag and my face) does NOT work when the device has been locked with the "Tap to Lock" feature.
On the other hand, Smart Lock works beautifully when the device has been locked with the Power button, so it only annoy me about half the time I use it.
Anyway, I would love to see a fix for this, along with the other issues left out for the Z3C, such as making the "Suggestion Page" optional, returning the Landscape mode to Home Screen for devices that sport a magnetic port, bring back Stamina, etc...
Some of those issues has been addressed for the Z5, so hopefully Sony still support the Z3C owners.
I have exactly the same experience:
When the display goes off by pressing the on/off-Button or simply by waiting, smart connect works as intended.
But if you switch off the display with the double tap, smart lock is disabled.
You can see this in the lockscreen already, because the flashing circle round the padlock (that indicates smart lock is on) is missing in this case.
This made me disable the tap to lock feature although I really like to use it.
This issue seems to be solved with 23.5.A.1.291 !
I still have this issue on Z3 Compact D5833 with build 23.5.A.1.291

GPS is enabled and clearly working as weather app shows I am at location 20 miles from home (at work)
The phone screen goes to sleep after 1 minute. But when I hit the power button to wake it I get directly to the home screen with NO security blocking me.
This is a HUGE BUG.

Have you enabled the location?
It still appears even if it's disabled.
It's faded when disabled and normal when enabled.
Adjust your home address by dropping the pin, instead of the automatic fill Google does for you.
See if that changes anything, and double check no other smart lock options have accidentally been enabled.
