Slow talk problem

I was wondering why everyone was talking as if they didn't have a care in the world! My z1 keeps switching to slow talk even when I switch it off. I put it to my ear and whilst there my phone light comes on for a split second (I can see this in the corner of my eye!) and then my cheek rubs against the change settings and switches to slow talk! So, mid sentence they go into "slow talk"... Then I have to pull it away from my ear and switch it back....it's so annoying and keeps happening! Anyone else having the same problem?....and secondly, what the heck is this stupid feature for?....

The proximity sensor should lock the screen as its close to your ear, make sure that you are actually touching the screen (ear) if you don't then the screen wont be locked.

Still a problem. Put to my ear, locks, but still goes into slow talk after a while. So I must at some stage take it a way from ear, but it would only be for a nano second. It appears that in that "nano second" it goes into phone settings(that are on the screen!) and transfers into "slow talk".... ridiculously annoying as I still have to keep taking it away from ear to change settings!!! And thus, it's a vicious cycle....not happy...:(

That is not normal at all, it should only go into slow talk if enabled and not automatically. Please attempt a firmware update/repair to potentially resolve this:

1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

I bought my x1 last friday and I delayed to find what's were happenning with the mobile. I realised that's it's exactly the trouble reported here but in my case, shut down the phone didn't solve the problem.

If you have checked that the option is not enabled, have you tried the repair as above?

I have discovered that this phone is "leftist".....that is, the proximity sensor is directly above the SONY Sign and there is another just left of it. Thus, as a left hander I hold the phone with my ear pushed against the right side where there is no sensor!...which explains why it continues to go into my settings. If I hold it with my right hand (which I wouldn't normally do) there is no problem at all. So, as a left hander I feel frustrated but somehow that doesn't surprise me. I am surprised that it has taken me this long to figure it out. Now, I'd like to hear if any other left handers have noticed or had the same problem...?
