Slow camera?

Slow camera?

Hi

I am experiencing the camera on the z5 compact to be horribly slow. If I pan the camera while taking a photo, the resulting image is always further in the panning than when the shutter button was pressed. As if the camera waits a second or two before taking the photo.
Anyone else seeing this? Any Solutions?

Things to test

settings > apps > camera > clear data > restart the phone

where are you saving the pictures?

are you on manual mode or superior auto or a different camera?

You can also test it in > > > safe mode

I'm having the same problem. The issue is present regardless of the resolution setting...

Unfortunately this is something that everyone experiences. It's quite disappointing and ruins all action shots.

Exactly Slightly_frowning_Face And I wonder why Sony doesn't intend to fix this? Is it because nothing can't be done software-wise, maybe it's all have to do with the response speed of the camera hardware? Who knows...

I think that what's described is the normal behavior (at least for me, went through few different region firmwares and updates since LP). There is a normal hardware lag and perhaps software, regardless of where you save the photos.

I noticed this as soon as I got the phone, last December, cause htc one spoilt me with its quite fast shutter and general faster camera response. But you learn to live with it, I guess, so I suggest doing that. Or write Sony and ask to improve it.

Hi,

Since the day I bought it, the most disappointing aspect of my Z5 Compact was that hopeless Camera shutter lag, where when you press the button to take a photo you get a rotating icon and it takes1-1.5 seconds to finish taking the photo. This is not a problem specific to Z5 Compact, I obversed the same issue on my brother's regular Z5 and all the other Z5 series owners have been complaining about this ever since. I've stumbled upon a video on YouTube where this guy is unboxing the new Xperia X and when he goes on and tests Xperia X's camera, he finds out that Xperia X takes photos with a lightning fast speed (actually that is the speed everyone was expecting from a high-end device such as Z5 series, even my old Note 2 was taking photos faster than my Z5 Compact). If you guys are interested, here is the unboxing video of Xperia X (at 9:29) and furthermore, the same YouTube user made a comparison video of Xperia X and Xperia Z5 where you can see the difference (at 5:09 until 5:56), and yes, my Z5 Compact behaves exactly the same as the regular Z5 in that video, which I assume all of you guys would agree, is ANNOYING! In terms of imaging hardware, X and Z5 are the same, and also Z5's SoC is slighly faster than the X's (S810 vs S650) so I'm wondering why do we have to deal with a lag festival everytime we have to take a photo on our Z5 series devices. Z5's superiority in terms of hardware to X compels me to think that this is a software optimization problem, right? Any chances we should expect an optimization/fix for our Z5 series soon?

I thought that the Z5 Compact was a premium phone ?

I record video in 1080p30, and whenever i stop recording, it takes like 10 seconds for the video to stop recording and be ready for the next picture/video ..

Starting the camera app and moving around the controls also feel very sluggish.

I record to the Internal memory (which should be fast.. no?) - i also have a Samsung SD Memory card which is rated to read/write at about 90MB/s .. should i use that instead ?

Thanks.

The Camera UI in our Z5 series, unfortunately, has never been very well optimized. It has always been laggy, especially when taking a picture (I mean the shutter lag) and also the post procecssing times both in photo and video modes are just mid-range class laggy... Not to mention that although Camera boot up time has improved, it still is not as "premium" as they say it is. However, same UI is running MUCH faster on the slightly newer X series (also, even on the Xperia X which has a less powerful chipset than Z5 series). All we can do now is to wait and hope all the improvements they did on X series will (AND SHOULD) be released for our Z5 series devices soon...
