SD card won't mount, gives error message

Hi,

I have a new M4 Aqua that won't mount an SD card. I have tried 2 different SD cards, one that is 2 years old and works fine in other phones and one brand new one. Of course I have tried reformatting/erasing the cards both in the phone and on a computer, the diagnostic tool in the computer tells me the cards are fine, but when I try to mount the cards I get the message, "SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it."

Thanks for any help.

What size and format are you formatting to?

The older card is a SanDisk 8GB micro SDHCThe other is brand new Transcend 16GB micro SDHC. Both default to FAT32, 32kb for formatting, but have exFAT and NTFS as options, which I haven't fiddled with yet.

I'm at a loss why this is happening - The last option I have is to erase the partition on your Pc then insert your card - to erase the partition you need to open Disk management and delete the partition then without creating a new partition or formatting place the card back in your phone and see if your phone will format the card

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. When I removed the partition, the card wouldn't format at all on the phone or in the computer,  so I repartitioned the card, which changed the allocated size to 8192 bytes, but that seems to be the only difference. And the card still doesn't work. I'm beginning to wonder if I have gotten a phone with a bad SD slot.

So, I've tried changing to exFat and NTFS as well as repartitioning the SD cards and it seems that none of that makes a difference.

I honestly have no ideas for you - All I can suggest although not ideal is to have your device inspected either return it to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care - http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

Thanks for trying. 🙂 I've sent a copy of all the stuff I've said here to the global support team and will wait to see what they say before going back to the store. I'll post back here about any solutions.

Support forum asked for an update so here it is:

No joy from the suggestions here or from the support team. Even after installing PC Companion to repair the phone's software, which also erases everything so it's a bit of a PITA, both SD cards get error messages in my Aqua, but not in other phones or in my laptop when I reformat them.

My guess is that my SD reader was bad from the beginning since the phone was brand new, just out of the box, when I first got the errors.

Back to the store I go.
