Screen freeze

Hi,

Forgive me for creating a new discussion for a problem that I'm sure has been already brought up by others.. I'm quite frustrated as this issue is affecting one of the essential functions of a phone: answering a call. Sometimes I miss my old 'supercheap' LG, which had far less problems than this 'high-tech' Sony smartphone. Un-freaking-believable. And I am not even talking about battery life...

Getting to the point, I would define the issue as follows: multiple times a day (I would say around 5 to 20 times), the screen of my Xperia P freezes at random moments (using Whatsapp, Walkman Player, Browser...). It seems to happen a lot when I want to answer a call; when sliding the green icon to the right, the screen freezes halfway there and I miss the call. Everytime this happens I press the power button a few times after which the screen reacts again (this takes from around 5 to 30 seconds). The three buttons on the bottom keep working, so it's purely the screen that doesn't function the way it is supposed to.

Numerous times when I was expecting an important call, the screen freezed and I just had to wait untill the call was missed and then try to fix it. In my frustration, I was a few times very close to throwing the phone against a wall, dumping the phone the canal near my house or flushing it through the toilet. But everytime I couldn't; the phone is too beautiful (and I'm stuck to a 2-year contract :smileywink:).

I did some quick google-research, but there doesn't seems to be better solution to this problem than sending it to a Sony centre.. I am very dissapointed as I thought I was buying a reliable phone by choosing for Sony. If I knew at that time what I know now, I would have never bought a Sony smartphone. Sad but true. Or is there still a chance for me to be satisfied with my Xperia P?

PS: My Xperia P has Android version 4.1.2, the build-number is 6.2.A.1.100 (if that's helpful info)

repair your phone once more with SUS or PCC also, do you have any taskiller, antivirus, task manager, battery apps, ram apps, booster apps? do you have a lot of call logs or sms/mms?

The only app I have installed that would fit the types of apps you posted is 'McAfee Security'. I will try to repair with the links you've sent me below, and keep you updated.

let us know how it goes, once you repair with SUS do not restore anything try it for an hour or so w/o installing any app and uninstall mcafee and see if the lag persist

I'm not a very experienced smartphone user, so this could be a stupid question. Does my phone have a backup if the 'back up my data'-box is checked (in Settings>Backup & reset)? Also I have the 'automatic restore'-box checked; does this mean that after going through the whole process of repairing with SUS, I can restore my phone to exactly the state it is in now? I honestly am not looking forward to losing any data from any of my (pre-)installed applications, for example Whatsapp conversations.

You also posted a link to 'Alternatives on How to backup Xperias'. Do I need to do that?

if you repair with SUS you will have to redownload your apps, my suggestion is this

as soon as you repair your phone with SUS > follow the steps to add your wifi > then enter your google account > follow the process it should start re-downloading all your apps, but you can use the backup & restore app to do so, which I suggest you do, also you can backup your sms, mms, etc using my suggestions (alternatives on how to backup xperias).

pre-loaded apps are not deleted as they will remain there. as for conversations with whatsapp, I've had mix results, sometimes I do lose them sometimes I don't I suggest you back them up if you don't want to lose them, perhaps an app on the market
