Screen crack

Screen crack

I had my screen crack by itself in my sleep 2 weeks ago on my Z2. Set my alarm the night before, woke up and my screen was cracked (hairline crack). Many of you might know but this is a known issue and unfortunately the only ones who keeps denying  is Sony. I've sent my phone to Sony (who typically just sends it to some company called SBE or something) and couple of days later I get a quote from them saying it will cost $245 to fix the screen. There are no phyiscal damage on the phone whatsoever, I've only had the phone for a month and a half and never put it under water either. I spoke a supervisor over the phone and he tells me that this is the only way to fix the issue as broken screens are not covered by warranty. I explained to him that there are many others who have had the same issue but they still deny that this is a manufacture defect. I continued to put on a fuss and he said he will contact them service center and see if they can do something. They haven't called back, I called and spoke to another supervisor the other day to get an update. He read the notices on the case and advised me that a request from the previous supervisor has been put in place to get a free repair done and are waiting on the approval. He then went on to tell me that a free repair is still not sure and can only confirm once they hear back from them repair center (SBE). If they get back to me saying that they cannot fix this is under warranty, is there anything I can do?

Can(if) someone who was in a similar situation before, help me out here? Help is much appreciated. Btw, i'm in Canada/Toronto.

-Thanks

i have suffered this same issue, my phone was sitting on my desk and cracked infront of my eyes, i sent my phone off and have been quoted £136 for the repair... i am appalled at Sony and will be contacting the proper authority as this is a disgusting way to treat customers, if an item is faulty and breaks itself without being mistreated by the owner, Sony should be liable for the repair, we should not have to pay money to repair something we did not break, if Sony get away with doing this then they can just make self destructing screens and say we have to pay to fix it each time. i have also done some research and it is cheaper for you to repair the phone yourself coming in at £50 less after buying the new screen and heat gun and plectrums and sealant... so their pricing is unjustified...i am disgusted at Sony and if i don;t get mine repaired for free there will be **bleep** to pay to say the least.

Keep complaining to the Sony service centre. Don't let them fob you off. Go there in person if you can. Give them links to this forum where others have posted similar photos. I got mine replaced by Sony for free after the screen cracked by itself but only after lots of emails and 2 visits in person. Good luck.

The service by Sony is the most ridicilous service i've ever received by any company i've dealt with. I've already begun to spread the word about to all my friends and family and as well as the internet forums. Their definitely not going to get away with this with me for sure. I'm just not sure where they have a Sony centre in Toronto, does anyone know? I tried Googling and wasn't able to find one.

Never, ever going to purchase a Sony product for sure, my first and LAST!

There is a service centre in the Toronto area for sure (Mississauga I believe). I have a thread on here (false Advertising by Sony) where my dad was told his phone would have to be sent to that repair centre. Sounds like Sony's biggest issue is their customer service and warranty plan.

Call your local Sony store and ask for the phone number and address of their repair centre

I have the same problem with my Z2.  The screen cracked while on charge and now Sony want to charge me £154.79 for repair (including handling).

I actually had the same fault on by Xperia Z and Sony wouldn't pay for that either but I have seen on forums that they have now started repairing self-breaking screens under warranty.

Want a high end phone that breaks by itself? Buy a Sony Xperia. Should have known better than to buy another one when the Z2 came out.
