So I purchased the SBH50 in white recently, received today. Purchased primarily to use as a wireless headset. Paired with a C6603 (Xperia Z) phone and immediately Smart Connect asked me to update the firmware. All good. Did so and the device began working. From first glance, works a treat right now.
But (yes, there's a but). I'm having issues with the SBH50 not displaying fonts properly. That is, things like artist and track names that are not English. More specifically, the device displays Japanese (and English fine), but not Korean. Korean text are rectangles.
1). Now, the most immediate question, is there an update planned that will enable Korean (and other) fonts? I also have a SW2 which displays Korean fine (the UI on the SW2 changes depending on the language that is set on the phone; a neat and welcome trick). Additionally, the SW2 has been getting regular updates with stability and additional language support the past year or so.
Considering the SBH50 doesn't have text in its UI except when dealing with media and notifications like calls and text messages, I guess the same doesn't apply for the SBH50 like the SW2. Though at least give the SBH50 the same font database as the watch...
2). Next question, in the SETTINGS menu of the SBH50 (ie, within the SBH50, not from the phone), I see two selectable settings. One setting is for the screen-rotate, and I'm not sure of the other one; can anyone please advise? I'm guessing factory reset, but not too keen on playing with things on the SBH50 because it's UI is completely textless...
The above aside, the SBH50 so far works fine. Though the following I guess to note:
- I am reading of issues of random disconnects and TTS issues, which I've not (yet, and hopefully never will) encountered.
- I am experiencing sporadic crackling when playing music but I'm going to assume that's the nature of bluetooth (that and, seems to happen when I play .flac files only; mp3 files are clear and play fine).
- The last update for the SBH50 was back in January according to the Play Store; surely an update is due!
Adding to the previous (the EDIT button seems to be broken at the moment...)
- Did some more testing, and it seems the SBH50 CAN display Korean. I can look into my call history on the SBH50 and people's names in Korean are shown properly (in Korean font)
- When a Korean contact text messages me in Korean, the SBH50 will display rectangles (ie, garble) for both the contact's name and the contents of the text message (which was written in Korean).
So yeah. The SBH50 is Korean capable then, just not in the music player controls and with the text message viewer...
I have tried changing the language of my C6603 to Korean from English, along with reboots of both the phone and SBH50, to no avail.
