Saving to SD card

For 4 months I have successfully edited and saved documents back to my SD card on my Xperia Z1. Suddenly it is preventing me from saving with the message "File not found (/Storage/sdcard1/myfilename.docx: O[pen failed: EACCES (Permission Denied)).

Saving to internal memory is fine.

No, I have not encrypted my SD card. Nothing has changed for at last a mont or two. Only hint is I have bee away for  month an I suspect a deluge of software updates hit the phone on 1st May. Problem is detectingwhich one is causing the prblem. Could it be the Kitkat upgrade.....?

It will be the KitKat update that is causing this.

Blame Google for this one, for once it's NOT Sony's fault.
