Hello and good morning,
the internal memory of the M2 is 5 GB.
My wife's M2 has 531 MB Available, 1.7 GB Apps, 9.35 MB Cached data, 288 MB Misc., 356 KB Pictures, videos+Audio+Downloads
This is about 2.5 GB in total.
Where are the remaining 2.5 GB? I am asking because the message "Internal storage is x%" full starts popping up.
< if the answer is posted already in another thread, thanks for posting the link! >
Kind regards,
Marcel
Hi mverduyn, welcome to the community!
* Memory comprises of approximately of 3 GB firmware, plus 5 GB of “Internal Storage” for downloaded applications, music, pictures and movies, and some application data. For more details about memory, see “Memory in Android™ devices” on page 14 of this devices White Paper.
ok
so this means that the remainder is the firmware?
does this imply that the M2 offers 5-3 = 2 GB of storage?
and, for me, that I should reduce size of the Apps (currently 1.7 GB)
kind regards, Marcel
mverduyn, out of the 8GB - 3GB is taken up by the operating system, so you should have 5GB left after this which can be used for pictures, music, videos & apps. To reduce the amount of data taken up by certain apps you can go to Settings > Apps > All > tap the desired app > tap Clear data (this will reset the app to factory default). Delete any data and apps you don't need any longer.
You can also invest in an SD card perhaps, your model of phone supports micro SD cards of up to 32GB.
Thanks for these infos.
Still I do not understand why the Available space is only 531 MB !
The M2 screen says:
531 MB Available
1.7 GB Apps
9.35 MB Cached data
288 MB Misc.
356 KB Pictures, videos+Audio+Downloads
So, I would expect 5 GB minus 1.7 GB minus 0.3 GB = 3 GB Available space and not 531 MB...
Are there hidden directories?
Marcel
Hi @mverduyn
You can also set with the Android adb, to store apps in the SD Card intead of the internal memory.
Should have USB Debugging activated in your device and execute adb commands like this:
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2
where 0 represents the internal storage and 2 represents the SD Card storage.
Best Regards.
