Received "Update" software for install... tablet will not power on

Hi folks,

A new software update was received on the tablet for installation. I postponed the installed until I had a fully charged tablet (common practice) before pressing on the "Install". When the "Install" was pressed, the tablet displayed it was powering off. It never came online by itself as I would expect with displays of software update so I decided to to wait for "several" minutes ... I waited a touch over 30 minutes.

Tablet will not power on now. I tried using the power button (holding), power button + volume up (and later down just in case I had it wrong), and even pushing the red button under the MicroSD flap and trying to power on.

Did the latest Sony update just hose my tablet?

Sad if this is the case because now without the local Sony Style stores I am reluctant to buy Sony products from anywhere as I receive zero support from retail stores in Canada. Last product I bought was my Z3 phone and a6000 camera; Retailers always blame issues and support services on to the manufacturer =(

EDIT: Forgot to mention, with the power cable (USB wall charger) plugged in, the usual charge light is not seen. No visual cues of being alive, no vibrations when doing the soft-resets.

Looks like I will not have my ultra portable work machine for use.

Leave the tablet on charger for wall outlet for 2-3 hours. Push the small red/yellow button under SIM flap for 3 seconds at least until you feel vibrations, then try to start it again.

Thank you for the response Quester. It has been plugged in for at least an hour now, again with no LED status. I plan to keep it plugged in till the morning (at least another 6 hours on top of the 1 hour).

Hoping a Sony Rep can chime in here; I will probably try to call the Sony Support number tomorrow but I just found another post about an user sending in the tablet for repairs and has not received it back due to company shipping issues.

Seems borderline fraudulent from the company and worries me as the latest update seems to have bricked the tablet - system error caused by faulty applications or risk-management testing from Sony and not an user error. I even went to the extent of restarting the tablet after full charge with the power cable still plugged in before pressing the "Install".

Ever since the decommissioning of Sony Style stores in Canada I have lost support and purchasing faith in the company. I last ordered an a-mount and e-mount lens online, though the transaction was quick and simple, the sales calls from what I perceived as outsourced was very unpleasant.

From user to user, I would not upgrade any Sony software moving forward... unless you have extra money and desire to purchase a new product to replace the 'to-be-dead/defective' Sony product. My Z2 tablet is dead.

Signed back in to post the update ... and now my Z3 phone is stuck on lock screen after today's Sony update; I enter my pin and it just sits there doing nothing.

It is a shame... about the product and the fact that I still tried to trust Sony and hit the install for my phone; Now I have a dead tablet and phone. Smart right?

My tablet is gone since the last update 5 weeks ago. No way to install anything with Experia Companion. I sent it to Sony Support. I have to pay 93€ to have it repaired.
A two years hold tablet has mechanical components to replace just after an update…
What kind of mechanical components?
How, why an update can damage it?
Should I never update again my tablet?
What are my guaranties if something happens 1 week, 1 month, 6 months from now?...
Should I better give up and buy another tablet, but never more a Sony one?

How can I be sure that my data will be erased at that the tablet will not be repaired and sold? I have to pay 26€ inven not repaired to have it back…

I am waitng for answers and I will let you know.

I am really disappointed. I should have bought a low cost tablet…
Unless Sony finds a way to make it more acceptable, I won’t recommend the Sony to anyone.
